"Back of My Hand" is a blues style song written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song features prominent harmonica from Jagger. The song heavily harkens back to earlier recordings by the Stones. Richards said at the time of release that the song is, "... a classic sort of Muddy Waters thing, or even earlier. And as we were getting it going, I went, Jesus Christ, we could have cut this at Chess, baby. You are what you listen to, in a way, and I never stopped listening to the blues." Unlike most other tracks from the album, it was recorded as just the core lineup of Jagger singing and playing harmonica, percussion, bass, and electric slide guitar; Richards playing guitar, and Charlie Watts drumming.
